Granola CEO: Meeting Notes Are Just the Start—The Real Prize Is Reinventing the Work Interface

Chris说:“Meeting notes are not the end all, be all value that everyone's running after. There's something much bigger.”

The Takeaway: We are still in the very earliest steps of a computing revolution; meeting notes are not the endgame—the real prize is inventing the interface for how we collaborate and think with AI.

Chris (CJ Pedrigal), cofounder and CEO of Granola, the $1.5B AI meeting-notes app that was one of the first to make people say “holy shit, this actually works.” He describes startups as permanent knife fights: whether things are working or not, you are always on the edge of your abilities, surfing a wave you desperately try not to fall off. Scaling from a 12-person previous startup to 60-70 people has forced hard questions about how to keep product soul—coherent taste and consistent feel—while adding people. They use a Shape-Up-inspired process: shape many possible solutions for a job-to-be-done, validate with a few users, only then harden for reliability and scale. Competition from Notion, OpenAI and Zoom launching similar features barely dented growth; “what people are fighting for today doesn’t matter. There’s this incredible opportunity ahead.”

Strategy: be 5x better than anyone at meeting-adjacent jobs, and make Granola context the easiest fuel for any agent via improving API/MCP. They pre-generate millions of pre-meeting briefs even if only a small percentage open, because the user has a 15-second window of need—like a handrail that is invisible until you trip. “Meeting notes are not the end all, be all value that everyone's running after. There's something much bigger.” He sees a clear gap: no good UI yet exists for working across many contexts and async agent tasks; the right metaphor will be discovered more than invented.

Internally they only started tracking token spend last week after Fable usage spikes; product-side they remain deliberately cost-insensitive while hunting for killer experiences. Roughly half of weekly users already engage in multi-step “agentic” queries even if they would not use that word.

Aaron Levie: The Negative AI Jobs Outcome Is Not Happening—Companies Are Hiring More

Box CEO Aaron Levie observes that the predicted negative AI jobs outcome continues not to materialize. A large portion of enterprises across industries are still hiring, just with a tilt in the roles they seek: engineers for problems they could not tackle before, sales teams that can go deeper with AI help, internal FDEs to deploy AI, and so on. Jevons paradox is playing out—AI lets companies do more, which creates more work. Firms that use AI merely to cut costs will eventually be outcompeted by those that use it to better serve customers and drive breakthroughs.

Guillermo Rauch: Grok 4.5 Emerges as Best Cybersecurity AI on Price-Performance

Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch reports that in their latest benchmarks Grok 4.5 has become the best cybersecurity AI model on price-performance: Kimi-like performance at 10x cheaper than Sol, 5.7x cheaper than Opus 5, and 2.2x cheaper than Kimi K3. Sol remains the frontier. He also highlights a key finding from Kimi’s paper: container-level isolation is insufficient—agents crashed the underlying machine via kernel panics. Firecracker microVMs (as used in Vercel Sandbox) are the safe boundary.

Practical AI educator Peter Yang shared an anecdote from OpenAI DevEx Jason: while on a bike ride a coworker asked him to fix a launch video. He connected remotely from his phone and told Codex to use computer use to edit the video, export it, and post it back to Slack. He then instructed Codex to check the thread for feedback every 30 minutes and produce V2/V3/V4. By the time he got home the video was greenlit. Full interview and prompts available.

Swyx: $/Token Died as a Cost Metric—Use $/Task; Claude Code “Open Source” Changed Almost Nothing

AI engineer Swyx argues that $/input-output token died as a relevant cost measure sometime last year; serious people now use Artificial Analysis’s $/task metric. As originator of the agent-lab thesis, he notes the biggest counter-argument to himself: Claude Code was accidentally “open-sourced” this year and approximately nothing happened to either its or its competitors’ roadmaps.

Madhu Guru: Great Product Reviews Simulate Market Reaction, Not Status Updates

Meta AI Sr Director Madhu Guru: Most product-review meetings are annoying because they’re poorly run. The best ones compress months of learnings into an hour by simulating market reaction to your ideas—only possible when the people in the room deeply understand the space, have great product sense, strong opinions, and are often right. Too many have drifted into status updates and cross-functional alignment, which people naturally resent.
